Injuries & Moves: Gallo reinstated; Lipscomb optioned; García scratched

May 17: 1B/DH returned from rehab assignment, reinstated from IL; INF optioned to Triple-A
Gallo missed 17 games because of a left shoulder AC sprain. During his 10 rehab games with Single-A Fredericksburg and Triple-A Rochester, Gallo hit four home runs and one double with eight RBIs and 11 walks.

Lipscomb, ranked as the Nationals’ No. 16 prospect, made his second stint with Washington this season. He is hitting .252 with 10 stolen bases and 16 runs in 33 games at the Major League level.

May 17: 2B Luis García Jr. (heel injury) scratched from series opener
García was replaced by Ildemaro Vargas at second base ahead of Friday night’s series opener in Philadelphia after irritating his right heel in the previous series in Chicago. Manager Dave Martinez hoped he would be available to pinch-hit.

RF (left MCL sprain)
Expected return: May
The Nationals are eyeing Thomas starting a rehab assignment at the beginning of next week. He is on the road with the team as he works on his recovery. Thomas was placed on the IL on April 24. (Last updated: May 17)

Ferrer, who had been rehabbing with the team to start the season, is continuing his recovery at the Nationals training complex in West Palm Beach, Fla. He is throwing up to 75 feet.
